For those of us who have been following Rick Lazio on Twitter you'd notice a few things - first, he's still active and second, he's been focusing almost exclusively on national issues since his NY Gubernatorial primary loss. To me, this has sounded like the baseline for a US Senate campaign for quite a while.
I decided to type in Lazio's name into Google to check to see if there was any news on the matter. The result? RightSphere has the screenshot
This is the most blatant indication that Lazio may be considering a US Senate bid. For those who remember, Rick Lazio ran for US Senate in 2000 after Giuliani had to step aside due to being diagnosed with prostate cancer...in late April / early May 2000. Lazio stepped into the role like a champ, rapidly working to build a statewide campaign, but was ultimately unable to defeat the Clinton machine in a Presidential election year in New York. In 2010, Lazio was the Conservative Party choice and, after Chairman Cox's choice of a Democrat fell through, he turned into the establishment GOP choice in the gubernatorial primary. Sadly, Lazio lost the primary to the over the top Carl Paladino. He, more gracefully than I would have been, bowed out of the race and supported Paladino.
In 2012, if Lazio runs, he'd be up against a weaker challenger in Kirstin Gillibrand and, frankly, Lazio has learned quite a bit since that statewide campaign against Hillary Clinton. He'd be an excellent candidate and I'd be ready to support him if he ran. Opinions are more than welcome.
