Holy Week
Yesterday marked the beginning of Holy Week in the Christian world. It begins triumphantly with Palm Sunday, the day in which Christ entered into Jerusalem. Jesus entered in with a huge crowd and great excitement. He threw the money changers / vendors out of the Temple; He began healing the sick; and He taught to the children. Jesus began His ministry in Jerusalem triumphantly - who among the disciples could have predicted that by week's end their teacher would be gone. If they had listened, they may have already known - but, they did not fully understand that which Christ had said.
Tonight also marks the beginning of Passover. Our Jewish friends will remember as the Lord required of them; in a tradition dating back to Moses, they will remember their liberation from Egypt, the Lord's power shown before Egypt, and the hardship of slavery / the Exodus. Their remembrance is one which Christians should not ignore. As followers of the same God as the Jewish people, the miracle of the Passover is something we should remember and admire. It further shows the amazing and awesome power of our God.
Now, what is even more amazing is that this year, as it has the past few years, our holy days fall in tandem - with Maundy Thursday actually falling during Passover. Maundy Thursday, 4 short days after the triumphant entrance into Jerusalem - Christ and His disciples were found in the upper room having the Last Supper. They celebrated the Passover meal together and during this meal, Christ instituted communion / the Lord's Supper. He instituted something amazing that day, He established a meal that all Christians can share as a family - a "Supper" where we as a Christian people commune together. This is a day that I always remember.
It is an amazing night where the Old and New Testament meet in beautiful harmony, right before the remembrance of the death of our Lord and His amazing resurrection. This is a week of holiness, a week of praise, a week of worship. This is a week where we should not only remember the final days of the Christ, but remember the roots of our Christian faith. We should remember the amazing miracles associated with the Exodus, but we must also recognize our new covenant forged in the blood of Christ. This is a Holy Week, a week of remembrance. Don't forget that.
