Murphy decided not to reveal the name yet, but gave more insight into the biography of this secret US Senate candidate yesterday. Here’s a copy of the press release from Murphy:
While I wish the outcome of last year’s primary and general elections had been different, our campaign marked the beginning of something special in Maryland. The campaign’s success must always be credited to our loyal supporters and volunteers. Maryland deserves representatives who understand the importance of sound fiscal and economic policy to our shared prosperity. Delivering such leaders was our goal then, and it is our goal now.
Although Joy and I are touched by the outpouring of love and support we continue to receive, the campaign was never about us. Rather, it was about our shared principles. I was honored to be a candidate, but I am just as eager to support worthy candidates who share our ideals. And I’m proud to say I’ve found such a man.
Today, it is my pleasure to announce that I have accepted the role of chairman for a 2012 US Senate campaign. Joy and I have gotten to know this candidate and his family very well, and we support him completely and without exception. And I have every confidence that the majority of Marylanders will do the same.
Next Tuesday we will formally launch the campaign, and in the months ahead we look forward to personally traveling the state to introduce you to this great man and his family. Between now and next Tuesday, we will be finalizing the infrastructure of what we expect to be a highly publicized and successful campaign. I have every confidence you will be just as impressed in this man as I am. His intellect, training, passion, life experiences, and principles are exactly what Maryland needs in the US Senate.
As a child in New York City, he saw firsthand the impact of well intentioned but fatally flawed government programs. Today, the candidate is a loving husband and father, married to a first generation immigrant whose life epitomizes the American Dream. He has a Master’s degree in Psychology and an MBA, and has enjoyed a sixteen year career in law enforcement, including four years with the New York City Police Department and twelve years with the United States Secret Service.
While with the NYPD, he helped pioneer the use of data to track serial and violent criminals. While with the Secret Service, he traveled to 27 countries in the service of Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama. He can speak with authority on the extraordinary nature of our great nation, and the universal love and respect we enjoy. As an agent in the Secret Service’s Baltimore Field Office, he was instrumental in the break-up of one of the largest consumer fraud rings in Maryland history.
Earlier this month, he left the Secret Service in order to continue his career of service to our nation in the United States Senate. I am proud to call him my friend, and I look forward to calling him my Senator. And next Tuesday, I look forward to formally and properly introducing him and his family.
Until then, I hope you all enjoy a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend. May God bless you, and may he continue to bless the Great State of Maryland.
I don’t know about you, but the more information I hear – the more I’m interested in this surprise candidate. And I really hope he can generate the buzz and funds necessary to take on Cardin in 2012.
