Who Am I?

I'm a former member of Congress. Some people called my national platform extreme. My last race for public office was a failed bid for US Senate where I lost to a well known Democrat in my home state. A few years later, I decide to run for President. Who am I? No, I'm not Rick Santorum.

I'm Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln lost his attempt for US Senate against incumbent Stephen Douglas. He, in turn, became the first Republican elected President.

Not saying that Santorum is the next Lincoln, just saying that losing a bid for US Senate then becoming President is not unheard of. In fact, it happened before.
